Hassan Mukiibi Sserunjoji, MP-elect for Bukomansimbi South, has warned newly elected leaders against misusing taxpayers’ money, calling on politicians to prioritize public service, community development, and unity over personal enrichment.

The Member of Parliament-elect for Bukomansimbi South, Hassan Mukiibi Sserunjoji, has cautioned newly elected leaders in the district against misusing public resources, emphasizing that leadership should be an opportunity to serve rather than a path to personal enrichment.

“Leadership is not a job where people go to collect money. Whoever misuses taxpayers’ funds meant to develop Bukomansimbi will face the law,” Sserunjoji said, stressing accountability for funds intended for development.

He made the remarks during special prayers (Dua) held in memory of his late father, Hajj Kasimu Mukiibi, at Buda Village in Kibinge Sub-County, Bukomansimbi District.

The prayers drew Muslim leaders from across the Masaka region, who prayed for the deceased and asked Allah to grant him eternal peace in Jannat al-Firdaus.

The event was led by the Masaka Regional Supreme Khadhi, Sheikh Badru Wasajja Kituuta, who encouraged forgiveness and unity within communities, particularly in the wake of the recent elections.

“Ramadan comes at a time when the country has just concluded the general elections that had a lot of irregularities, but people, please forgive your friends, because a person who does not forgive will not be forgiven by Allah,” he said.

Kituuta also advised politicians who lost in the recent elections to remain calm and focus on income-generating activities while awaiting the next elections in 2031, reminding them that politics is about service, not personal gain.

Bukomansimbi District Daawa leader, Sheikh Muhammad Muusa Nampanji, called on Muslims to strengthen family ties and live peacefully with others, regardless of religious differences.

During the prayers, Sserunjoji also urged his political opponents to set aside differences and collaborate on the development of Bukomansimbi. He further condemned child marriage, warning that it destroys the futures of young girls.

Additionally, Bukomansimbi Supreme Khadhi, Sheikh Muhammad Mufti Ssenyondo, encouraged residents to invest in agriculture, particularly coffee growing, as a means to improve household incomes.

The prayers were attended by leaders from the central government and officials from the Buganda Kingdom.
